The Lions Club of Mt Eliza
What does a Lions club do within its community? One of the objectives of Lions Clubs International is “to assist those in the community who are in need of help, both directly and indirectly”.
The Lions Club of Mt Eliza focuses its efforts on the provision of services to needy groups and individuals within the community in a way that ensures they continue to be recognised as valued members of our society. Where possible, the club promotes the concept of working in partnership. It believes the most effective assistance it can offer to those in need is to provide facilities and members to work in a cooperative role that is seen as ‘support’ rather than as ‘charity’.
Recently, the Lions Club of Mt Eliza received a Victorian Government grant to partially fund a fully equipped barbecue trailer. This unit is a self-contained mobile refrigerated food storage and LPG gas cooking facility that meets all the requirements for safe and hygienic food handling. This unit, with club members to operate it, is available to other community groups for fundraising activities. If your community organisation could use the services of the Lions, together with this barbecue trailer, please make contact via the details listed below.
While engaged in this community work, the 30 Mt Eliza Lions enjoy the fellowship and camaraderie of working together and the friendly interaction with all members of the community. Those of you who visit the Mt Eliza Village shopping area on the second and fourth Saturday of each month will be familiar with the friendly greetings and banter of the Lions as they hold their regular sausage sizzle.
Yes, we work hard, but we have a great deal of enjoyment while pursuing these activities. Would you like to come along to one of our dinner meetings with the view to possibly joining the Lions Club of Mt Eliza? If so, please contact Gordon King (0434 313 597) or Ian Davey (5975 3122).
