The Heart of Mt Eliza
The Village, Mt Eliza is fast becoming a showcase for local artists, most recently commissioning celebrated and internationally renowned artist Janine Daddo to create an exclusive piece of art to adorn flags that dominate Mt Eliza’s Village Green and intersection with Nepean Hwy.
The art piece is a whimsical representation of the mermaid, an icon that is quickly becoming synonymous with the Peninsula’s Style Capital. The mermaid is already embodied in local artisan designed wrought iron seating spread throughout Mt Eliza’s retail precinct.
In addition the Mt Eliza Chamber of Commerce has plans to complement these art based initiatives with custom designed wrought iron Welcome signs at either end of Mt Eliza Way that incorporate a mermaid design.
According to Mt Eliza Chamber’s Promotions Coordinator, Lucinda Bakhach, the quest to inject local art & design elements within the Village environs enhances the existing boutique nature of Mt Eliza’s ambience and gives us a unique edge.
“The mermaid is being used to denote our proximity to the sea and as a mythical icon inspires notions of discovery and beauty which are relevant to our Village” says Lucinda. Mt Eliza Chamber of Commerce President, Mr Hans Van Bloemendaal echoes these sentiments stating that “the Chamber is extremely honoured and grateful to artists such as Janine Daddo who are generously supporting our efforts.”
